Participating in the Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Foundation Walk

by Hays T. ’21

During Family Weekend, the Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Foundation (CBBCF) held its 14th Annual 2 Mile Fun Run, Walk & Pooch Prance in Middleburg. In past years, the event had been held on campus at Foxcroft, but the CBBCF Board decided to bring the walk back into downtown Middleburg. After the months of preparation, the walk and fun run was a pink-filled success.
Registration began at 12pm. When participants arrived, they were greeted by people dressed in pink, baked goods, and the Moo Thru Ice Cream Truck. Right before the walk began, Middleburg’s Vice Mayor, Darlene Kirk, spoke to participants as did the President of the Board and a breast cancer doctor. Then, Lousie W. ’20 cut the ribbon and the walk began.

Participants walked or ran around The Hill School’s beautiful property, ending the walk behind the Middleburg Post Office and Atlantic Union Bank. The event was fun and all donations go to Loudoun and Fauquier County residents and local non-profit organizations.

Even though the event was not held at Foxcroft, Foxcroft families and students came out to volunteer and support the CBBCF's mission to defeat breast cancer through improvements in detection, treatment, education, and elimination. They baked treats for the bake sale, set up, planned, walked, and cleaned up the walk. Some of the Foxcroft student volunteers included Lauren S. ’20, Harriet B. ’21, Jennifer C. ’21, Winley T. ’23, and the three Foxcroft student board members — Louise W. ’20, Hayden E. ’21, and myself (Hays T. ’21).

Foxcroft is a vital part of putting on this walk. I, as well as Louise and Hayden, sit on the CBBCF Board. We are all very lucky to be part of this amazing foundation, learning life skills and helping support its mission. In preparation for the event, we hosted a seated lunch and an all-school pink out on Thursday, October 24, with Athletic Association to get the School excited for the walk.

Thank you to everyone that came out and volunteered, walked, ran, or supported the Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Foundation this weekend!
