The Intersection of Art, Technology, and Science: Guest Speaker David Flood

On Wednesday, Foxcroft welcomed David Flood, a senior creative strategist for Interface Media Group (IMG), who creates design-driven stories through brand identity, motion graphic design, character animation, video production, and user experience.
David spoke with the Digital Literacy class about the process of translating company and client strategic initiatives into specific, actionable marketing campaigns and public service announcements (PSAs). Using a recent spot that his team had created for DC Lottery Family of Numbers, he went through the creative process from interpreting the design brief and conceptualizing the spot to drawing the storyboards, creating and recording the music, to choreographing and filming the dancer, and the use of motion graphic design that was incorporated to add visual interest to the spot.

Learning the creative process and all of the elements involved was particularly interesting and helpful because after David was finished, Digital Literacy teacher and Director of the Audrey Bruce Currier Library Jennifer Boudrye — who is David's step-sister — assigned the creation of a PSA to the class!

Beyond getting a glimpse into David’s work, students learned about the path he took in life to get there — and how he combined his creativity and love for music with his career. In his presentation, he posed several questions to students, including “What’s your passion?” to get them thinking about what they might ultimately strive to integrate into their life’s work.

David has created media content for Museums, Agencies, Networks, The US Government, and Corporate Business. Some of David’s credits include PBS Kids, Nat Geo Wild, The World Bank, AMTRAK, National Children’s Medical Center, DC Lottery, Washington Area Women’s Foundation, The Spy Museum, and the National Museum of the U.S. Army opening in 2020.
