Varsity Lacrosse Reaches “Final Four” of State Tournament!

FXC faces Cape Henry Collegiate in semifinal game tomorrow (5/17) at Highland!

Varsity Lacrosse, ranked sixth among VISAA Division II schools, stunned No. 3 Norfolk Collegiate, 22-11, in a quarterfinal match Tuesday to advance to the “Final Four” of the state tournament for the first time in three years. The semifinals and championship game are tomorrow and Saturday, respectively, at Highland School in Warrenton. Coach Laura Moan reports:
The lacrosse team traveled to Norfolk on Tuesday to face Norfolk Collegiate for the quarterfinal game of the state tournament. Warming up in a driving rain storm must have given the players a boost of energy, because they started the game fast and strong, and never let up. A six-goal lead at halftime translated to a 22-11 win by the end of the game.

All-Delaney Athletic Conference selections Allie M. ’20, Loren S. ’19, Jenna T. ’19, and Haley B. ’19 all had outstanding games. Allie led the scoring with eight goals, Jenna added five goals, and Loren had four goals and four assists. Haley and goalies Ellen B. ’21 and Julia G. ’21 led a strong defense. Ellen made four saves in the first half and Julia racked up five in the second half.

The team has improved steadily throughout the season, and maintained a high level of intensity and consistency during Tuesday’s game. They are looking forward to meeting Cape Henry on Friday in the semi-final round at Highland. The game is at 1pm and Warrenton is not far, so if you can, come on out to support the girls!
