A Good Harvest

On Saturday, freshmen Georgia R., Maddie J., Chelsie E., Erica J., Ella S., Nia D., and Amelia F., and class advisors Madame Mueller, and Mr. Scharfenberg went to JK Community Farm near Purcellville to harvest onions. According to its website, JK Community Farm provides food-insecure families access to fresh produce and protein.
These onions were special because the Freshman Class planted them at the beginning of this school year. This trip was full circle, and represented how far our Class has come; we grew just like the onions.

After we pulled all the onions from the ground, we took them over to a picnic table where we cut off the roots and peeled off their outer layer of skin.
In total, we harvested four rows of onions and collected 12 bushels of them in about two hours! All of the onions we collected will go to food-insecure families in Virginia, so not only was this a great bonding trip for the girls who participated, but it was also a meaningful contribution to our community.
