Teddy S. ’19 Swims to Her First Junior National Cup

Swimmer Teddy S. ’19 earned her first junior national “cut” — and a trip to the TYR Junior National Cup next week — when she smashed her personal best with a time of 24.78 in the 50 freestyle during a dramatic swim-off at the Junior and Senior Champions over spring break.
Competing against more than 100 swimmers in the preliminaries at the University of Maryland, Teddy posted a time that tied her for 8th place — the last spot in the A final, which determines 1st-8th place for that event. In the head-to-head swim-off, Teddy dominated the race from the start and beat her previous best time by more than half a second, which is a lot in such a short race.

“That one extra swim was the one moment Teddy was given to earn a spot at the National Cup,” said Aaron Dean, head coach at Occoquan Swimming. “Teddy took advantage of the opportunity she was given and made it into the swim of her life.”

Teddy will travel to St. Petersburg, FL, next week to compete TYR International Junior Cup. Good luck, Teddy!
