James Bland Music Scholarship Competition

Last Sunday, four Foxcroft students competed at the James Bland Music Scholarship competition, sponsored by the Middleburg chapter of the Lion's Club of Virginia and held at The Hill School. Finy Z. ’22, Teddy S. ’19, and Seabrook B. ’19 were in the Senior Voice division, and Scarlett D. ’21 was in the Senior Instrumentalist division.
Everyone gave strong performances against the other competitors. Our voice students competed against classical and musical theater singers. Teddy sang a musical theater piece “Waiting for Life to Begin” from the Broadway musical Once on This Island, and Finy sang a classical 20th-century art song “Whither Must I Wander” by Ralph Vaughan Williams. In her division, pianist Scarlett competed against a cellist, violinist, and other pianists. She performed “Etude Op. 25, no. 11” by Chopin.

With her performance of “Watch What Happens” from the Broadway musical Newsies, Seabrook won first place in her division! She will be moving on to the district round in Fairfax, VA. Students who make it to the final statewide round are eligible to win scholarship prizes up to $2,500. Good luck Seabrook, and well done to all our performers!
