Eight Foxcroft students created ten outstanding works of art that were selected for special recognition in the 2024 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards regional competition.

Foxcroft was delighted to welcome 102 college admission representatives from schools across the country to the Mary Louise Leipheimer Gym of our Athletic/Student Center yesterday for the Middleburg College Fair. Our students, along with others from Wakefield School and Highland School, introduced themselves to and had wonderful conversations with the admission officers who will be reading their applications and making admission decisions in the coming years! It was great to see so many vibrant and robust discussions taking place!

In an afternoon that showcased team spirit, accurate and thoughtful riding, well-loved horses, and a lot of fun, the Foxes and the Hounds emerged jointly victorious on Wednesday when the final Fox/Hound competition of the year was held at the Jean DuPont McConnell Stables and Riding Arena.

Foxcroft is thrilled to host the Middleburg College Fair next Wednesday, April 10, from 12:30-2pm in the Mary Louise Leipheimer Gym of our Athletic/Student Center.

Class of 2024 members Eva C., Sarah F., Emmy Q., and Isabella W. were elected to the Foxcroft Chapter of the Cum Laude Society (modeled on the collegiate Phi Beta Kappa), announced Society President Dr. Meghen Tuttle this week. In addition, Sara W., Flora W., Eunice W., and Hailey Y. received the impressive distinction of being selected during their junior year. STEM teacher Dr. James Sweeney was also elected to the Society to honor his dedication to the scholarship, teaching, and love of learning fundamental to the ideals of the Society.

Foxcroft is excited to welcome Junious 'Jay' Ward as our Visiting Poet for the 2024 Paul K. Bergan Poetry Festival, to be held on Friday, April 12.

"When you have the freedom and the opportunity to do your things, take full advantage and really do it with passion," shared Grace Jun, Foxcroft's 57th Alison Harrison Goodyear 1929 Fellow, who spoke with our campus community last week about her journey to starting Open Style Lab, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating functional, wearable solutions for people of all abilities without compromising style.

We are delighted to recognize and celebrate Irene B. ’24 on her decision to ride for the equestrian team at Division III Sewanee: The University of the South next year as she joins a growing group of Foxcroft graduates playing NCAA sports.

Students from Foxcroft’s Black Student Union (BSU) organized multiple events during Black History Month that allowed the entire campus community to celebrate and reflect on Black History. The nationwide theme for 2024 is “African Americans and the Arts," encouraging reflection on Black Americans' influence on visual arts, music, cultural movements, and more.

The campus community nominated employees and students who have been doing great things and living out our values in big and small ways during the month. The Everyday Hero Award Committee (Gracie R. ’24, Isabella W. ’24, Tashae' A. ’25, Kyla P. ’26, and faculty members Erika Page, Christine McCrehin, Lynnette Saunders, Dr. Tanya Hyatt, Dr. Whittney Preston, and Cathy McGehee) received a multitude of nominations and the announcement of winners at Morning Meeting was met with much cheering and applause.

When the competitors gather Saturday to embark on the 13th annual Foxcroft STEM Challenge, they will set off on a day filled with collaboration, calculations, deductive reasoning, and — above all else — STEM-tastic fun!

Grace Jun, an assistant professor at the University of Georgia, where her research and teaching focus on design and disability processes, has been named Foxcroft’s 2024 Alison Harrison Goodyear 1929 Fellow. Jun will speak to the community about her career journey and research on Thursday, March 21, at 7pm in the Audrey Bruce Currier Library at Foxcroft.

Last weekend, Foxcroft’s 16-member Model UN Team traveled to American University, in the heart of Washington, DC, to compete in AmeriMUNC, which their website describes as “...the only high school conference to host a completely interconnected crisis simulation that is centered around one region of the world.” Students arrived Friday and stayed through Sunday to participate in the conference.

Last Friday saw the completion of another invigorating and engaging Wintermission term. Diving enthusiastically into new experiences, there was a more playful and relaxed feeling around campus during Wintermission as the girls explored new topics. Based on their reflections, many were impressed and even a bit surprised by what they learned.

During my sophomore year, I decided to pursue a STEM concentration regarding aspects of pregnancy and childbirth. I didn't know what I wanted to focus on, but Dr. Tuttle, my mentor, helped me figure it out when she suggested becoming a birth doula. As a birth doula, one provides pregnant women with emotional and physical support throughout their pregnancy and labor to ensure a positive birthing experience. Although I didn't know what a doula was or how it could benefit the birthing process, I was determined to pursue it to make a difference in my community and contribute to the medical field. My ultimate goal is to become a certified doula, which involves extensive reading, writing, and attending three births, among other requirements.

Fox/Hound Basketball (March 1-2) and the days leading up to it are exciting and eventful times for the entire community.

Foxcroft will host up to 40 teams of girls on Saturday, February 24, as they compete in the “Powered by STEAM” STEM Challenge. Designed for middle and high school students, the competition will see girls from Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC, using their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and math to participate in challenges around helping a group of scientists who were transported back in time and need to use the technology available to figure out how to return home.

The unique learning experiences of Wintermission taking place across campus this week are generating a different type of energy in the classroom, Athletic/Student Center, The Innovation Lab, and beyond!

Foxcroft is the lone school in Virginia and one of only 68 worldwide to earn the prestigious College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Awards for achieving high female representation in both AP Computer Science A (AP CSA) and AP Computer Science Principles (AP CSP) courses during the 2022-23 academic year.

Last Sunday, the Foxcroft Robotics team traveled to Harrisonburg, VA, to participate in their first event of the season. Foxcroft competes in the FIRST Tech Challenge, which provides a framework for students to develop their design, building, and coding skills. Several team members took an Independent Study in Robotics in the Fall semester, and some also met three days a week during athletic practice time. While their coach Mr. Northrup was present, the students worked independently to solve the challenges presented to them by the competition.

This past Monday, students participated in a day-long celebration of the legacy and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with morning workshops and an afternoon of on-campus service projects.

Keynote speaker and alumna Alice Lane Lloyd ’97 (Gigi ’25), a nutritional therapy practitioner and certified autoimmune paleo coach, kicked off Foxcroft's annual Wellness Weekend events with an interesting and informative presentation on the health benefits of water and electrolytes versus energy drinks during last Friday's Morning Meeting.

Foxcroft is excited to offer a week-long equestrian residential camp from June 23-28, 2024, for riders entering the 8th-11th grade in the fall of 2024 and interested in exploring attending Foxcroft School during their high school years. The program, designed for riders with experience riding at a level of walk-trot-canter or above, was created to further a girl's riding skills while allowing her to experience Foxcroft’s uncommonly beautiful campus and local community.
