    Foxcroft Falls to Cape Henry Collegiate, 2-0, in VISAA DII Field Hockey State Championship

    On a blustery, frigid day at the Evergreen Sportsplex in Leesburg, third-ranked Foxcroft School’s bid for its first VISAA Divison II field hockey championship ended Saturday when top-seeded Cape Henry Collegiate posted a 2-0 victory to win its second title in a row.

    “It was great game. It was hard fought. We had our opportunities and we never stopped pushing,” said Foxcroft Coach Michelle Woodruff of her team’s performance. “We just couldn’t complete it. Their defense is very strong.”

  • Foxcroft defeats FA to Advance to State Championship Game!


    Fighting through a steady rain and bone-chilling cold, third-seeded Varsity Field Hockey stopped second-seeded Fredericksburg Academy, 3-1, Friday afternoon in a Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II semifinal at Evergreen SportPlex in Leesburg.

    The victory propelled Foxcroft into the DII Field Hockey Championship game for the fourth time in seven years. Foxcroft (11-4) will play No. 1 seed and defending champion Cape Henry Collegiate (14-3), a 1-0 winner over No. 4 Covenant School in the other semifinal. The game is scheduled for 1pm Saturday  at the Sportsplex. Foxcroft, which has never won a field hockey state championship, lost to FA in the title game in 2012, 2013 and 2015. (Foxcroft played in VISAA Division 1 in 2016 and 2017.)

  • Foxcroft Defeats Virginia Episcopal, 5-1, to Advance to VISAA Semifinals

    Foxcroft Defeats Virginia Episcopal School, 5-1, to Advance to VISAA Division II Semifinals
    Junior Allie M., a First-Team All-Delaney Athletic Conference selection, scored two goals and added two assists to spark Foxcroft to a 5-1 victory over Virginia Episcopal School on Tuesday in a Division II quarterfinal match of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association state field hockey tournament.

    The victory sets up another match with rival Fredericksburg Academy, a 4-0 quarterfinal winner over Nansemond Suffolk Academy, in the semifinals on Friday at the Evergreen Sportsplex in Leesburg. The game, scheduled to start at 1pm, will be the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. FA, which beat Foxcroft in a shootout to win the DAC Tournament title last week, holds a 2-1 edge. The teams have met nine years in a row for the DAC Championship.

  • Foxcroft Hosts Conference Cross Country Championship and Tennis Semifinal; Field Hockey Headed to Title Game at FA

    Foxcroft’s campus will be bustling with athletic competition Thursday when the School hosts the Delaney Athletic Conference (DAC) Cross Country Championships and its tennis team, ranked 5th in the Virginia Independent School Athletic Association (VISAA), meets Highland School in a DAC semifinal match.

    In addition, Foxcroft’s No. 3-ranked field hockey team meets No. 2 Fredericksburg Academy for the DAC championship in Fredericksburg.

  • Dr. Mueller Receives VAIS Teaching Award

    French teacher Anne Mueller, Ph.D., received the Virginia Association of Independent Schools Innovation in Education Award for upper school teachers on Monday, October 29, at the annual VAIS conference in Richmond, VA.

    In keeping with the theme of the conference, “Better Together,” this year’s awards highlight teachers who are building cohesion and community in their classrooms and inspiring students, educators, and community members to connect anew. Dr. Mueller — aka “Madame” — introduced a number of student-driven, collaborative projects into her classroom last year, empowering students and getting them to work collaboratively while speaking French. She also had them use The Innovation Lab in creative ways.
