Charlotte Haxall Noland

Pioneer
Inducted 2014
Miss Charlotte founded Foxcroft in 1914 and made sports part of the curriculum from the very start. She believed so strongly in the importance of athletic activity that she chose as the School motto the Latin phrase “mens sana in corpore sano” (a healthy mind in a healthy body).

Miss Charlotte was herself an outstanding athlete and studied sport at Harvard and in England. At Foxcroft, she taught riding and introduced basketball — and Fox/Hound — to the program. She also served as co-Master of the Middleburg Hunt, won a fishing contest in Montauk, NY (check out the trophy at the Athletic/Student Center) and was an accomplished basketball referee.
