IEA Team Finishes the Regular Season with 3 Individual Regional Qualifiers
The Foxcroft IEA team attended the final regular season competition at Meadowbrook Stables in Chevy Chase, MD, on Saturday, January 21, 2023. Without a full team entered, our goal for Saturday was to qualify the individual riders who were within range to earn the required number of points to compete at the Regional Finals next month. There were 14 high school teams competing, so the classes were large and very competitive.
The day began for Foxcroft with Captain Meredith K. ’23 and Madison B. ’24 in the irons in the JV Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter class. A class of 11 riders was split into two heats, all judged as one class. Meredith K. clinched the fourth-place finish, earning her more than enough points to qualify her individually for regionals. An unfortunate incorrect lead kept Madison B. out of the ribbons, but she finished the season with a smile and an appreciation for all she learned.
Novice riders Claire M. ’24, AM C. ’25, and Maddie K. ’26 were up next in the order of classes. Claire and AM were calm, cool, and collected, each earning a first-place finish in one of their two classes. Claire’s win on the flat will send her to Regional Finals as an individual in February. Maddie K. is new to the IEA format but had a great experience and enjoyed her time in the saddle.
Captain Lexi H. ’23 finished the day in the Open classes. Every team had their best representing them in the flat phase, and the judge tested the ten Open riders with no stirrups in the second half of their class. Lexi and her coaches were proud of her sixth-place finish in such competitive company.
Regional Finals will take place on February 18, 2023, at Meadowbrook Stables, where Foxcroft will compete as a team in addition to the three individuals who qualified: Anneliese C. ’26, Claire M. ’24, and Captain Meredith K. ’23.
Open Over Fences Lexi H. ’23 - 6th place
Novice Over Fences AM C. ’25 - 1st place Claire M. ’24 - 4th place
Novice Flat Claire M. ’24 - 1st place AM C. ’25 - 5th place
