Raising Funds and Hope: Emma P. ’21 Competes at the Great Charity Challenge

Down at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, FL, Foxcroft riders compete and train at a high level over the course of several months. Earlier this month, one rider, Emma P. ’21, participated in a very special event, raising $80,000 with her team for charity — while sporting a hairstyle the likes of which we've never seen on her before!
On Saturday, February 1, Emma and her “Hairspray” teammates Tessa and Kyla competed in the Great Charity Challenge (GCC) at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. A highlight of WEF, the GCC features show jumping competition with a philanthropic scope, supporting 40 charities in the Palm Beach area this year. The competition’s “Broadway Musicals” theme gave teams an opportunity for creativity and fun.

With both riders and horses dressed in costumes that conveyed their team’s chosen musical, “Hairspray,” Emma and her teammates rode for the benefit of Best Foot Forward, an organization that provides academic support and guidance to children in foster care. The team, which competed side-by-side with professionals — and some Olympians — placed fourth in the competition and secured an impressive $80,000 donation.

Emma and other Foxcroft riders competing at WEF are able to do so with the support and structure of the Exceptional Proficiency (EP) program. Foxcroft’s EP program enables students with demonstrated talent and passion to spend time away from campus to train, compete, and pursue their personal dreams while receiving academic support to fulfill our high educational standards.

Through her efforts at the GCC, Emma is now paying forward this opportunity by raising funds to support other children pursuing their own academic goals and dreams — what an invaluable opportunity to give back and put more good out in the world!
