A long-time Middleburg resident, Alex went to the local Hill School before attending St. Andrew’s School, a coeducational boarding school in Middletown, DE. He spent a year working in Mexico while a student at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. In addition to his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown, Alex holds an Master of Library Science from Catholic University and a Master of Education in Private School Leadership that he earned at the Klingenstein Center at Teachers College, Columbia University, in 2011.
Alex chairs the History and Social Science department, currently teaching AP Human Geography and AP World History: Modern. In the past, he has taught a variety of History and English courses, including U.S. History, International Relations, History of Latin America, World Cultures, Expository Writing, and Dystopian Literature. He is a reader for the AP Human Geography exam, and was recently selected by the National Endowment for the Humanities to serve as a Mentor Teacher for "The Long Road from Brown: School Desegregation in Virginia" summer workshop.
Alex led a student team to design and create The Innovation Lab @ Foxcroft, which opened in 2017. He helps students and teachers integrate technology into their classwork, including the use of laser cutters, 3D printers, and other tools. He is a leader in GIS (Geographic Information System) education, and recently earned his remote pilot certification to fly drones. He currently teaches AP Computer Science A, and has taught AP Computer Sciences Principles in the past. He presents frequently at conferences, including the Virginia Association of Independent Schools, the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools, and the Virginia Society for Technology in Education.
Alex lives on campus, with his partner Linda and daughters Harper (Foxcroft Class of 2018) and Emma ’21. He enjoys playing sports, running, and making cameo appearances in Foxcroft spring musicals
