Civil Discourse and Campus Neutrality Statement

Civil Discourse and Campus Neutrality Statement

As an institution of learning, Foxcroft is committed to encouraging the pursuit of knowledge, to researching and debating issues, to providing ongoing dialogue around topics of national and global importance, and to exploring solutions for a stronger future.

These conversations must first and foremost adhere to Foxcroft’s long-standing values of respect, integrity, kindness, and service to others. They must also adhere to Foxcroft’s Code of Conduct and to the tenants of civil discourse. There is no room for discrimination of individuals based on their identity or beliefs, or for harassment of any kind. Nor will the School tolerate threats or calls for violence against any group or interruptions to the learning environment.

Further, as a school and a 501(c)3 entity, we take the position of institutional neutrality, which calls for Foxcroft’s leadership to refrain from taking public positions on controversial/political issues unless the issue directly affects the core mission and operation of the School. While we host dialogues and speakers to explore topics of relevance to the curriculum in our college preparatory program, in so doing, we seek to expose students to a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences and expand their worldview as part of a liberal arts education.

Whatever our strongly held individual convictions, we must remember that we are members of one community, united by our mission to prepare girls to learn and lead in college and beyond.
