Where the Wild Things Were: Athletic Association Banquet Honors Tradition

Where the Wild Things Were: Athletic Association Banquet Honors Tradition

“Let the Wild Rumpus begin!” declared an email from Athletic Association Head Flora W. ’25 on Sunday — and begin it did — that evening in a completely transformed Dining Hall.

Each spring, the Athletic Association Banquet showcases the importance of student leadership at Foxcroft. Departing seniors pass down their club head positions to underclassmen eager to step into these roles, and Fox/Hound officers and mascots pin their hats onto those who will carry on this beloved tradition. Last Sunday night, the members of Athletic Association put together a banquet that truly captured the significance of this time-honored tradition.

Working together over the weekend, Athletic Association members transformed the Dining Hall using the theme of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are. A dark green canopy and paper trees invoked the book’s forest setting, while paper stars shone through dark blue skies to give the evening a nighttime feel. Wild beasts and all, the scene was set for a wonderful evening.

After everyone was seated at their tables, senior Athletic Association Heads Patty A., Lily M., Flora W., and Frankie W. welcomed students, faculty, and staff. Dinner was served, cake was enjoyed, and the program got underway. Junior Co-Heads Lizema C., Kate G., Kyla P., and Ava P. each invited club leaders to the podium to share reflections on the year and announce their successors for 2025-26. The newly elected club leaders are stepping into big shoes to continue the work of groups like Book Club, Global Cultures Club, Modern Naturalists, Rhythm Nation, Techies, and so many others that enhance the residential and co-curricular experience here at Foxcroft.

The final portion of the evening showcased the spirited tradition of Fox/Hound. This year’s officers and mascots took a few minutes to reflect on the year and what it meant to hold their positions before announcing who they would pass down to for next year. There were laughs, tears, and smiles that all exemplify how special the Fox/Hound tradition is to the community. Special congratulations to our 2025-26 Fox and Hound Captains, Ellet S. ’26 and Mia D. ’26. Our departing captains, Ruby D. ’25 and Patty A. ’25, have been great role models in leading both teams with spirit and enthusiasm all year!

Many thanks to the Athletic Association and faculty advisor Michelle Woodruff, the Dining Hall staff for the delicious meal, Maintenance for all their help with the setup, the Technology Department for their technical assistance, and of course, Hound Backer Patty Boswell and Foxy Fellow Alex Northrup for all their support in making this wonderful event come together!
