The FoxHound Players Journey “Into the Woods”
As a fantastical end to Arts Week, the FoxHound Players portrayed a cast of characters that journeyed through the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales during three nights of performances of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods.
With a truly magical set, carefully curated costumes, and storytelling delivered through both dialog and song, the talented cast and crew enchanted the audience, weaving together narratives from Cinderella, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, and Jack and the Beanstalk while focusing on two characters — the Baker (Katt G. ’27) and the Baker’s Wife (Aradeal H. ’26) — attempting to lift a witch’s curse so they may start a family.
As the Narrator, Katarina S. ’26, guides the story “into the woods and through the trees,” where the Baker and his Wife encounter many characters. Though each seeks to fulfill their own wishes, they all play a part in breaking the curse of the Witch (Raven L. ’26). Cinderella (Poppy M. ’27) must part with one of her golden shoes, Little Red Riding Hood (Saoirse C-G. ’28) must give up her cape, Jack (ZoraNelle B. ’26) must part ways with his beloved friend the cow Milky-White (Chris R. ’28), and Rapunzel (Eugenia G. ’27) must give up her braid of hair. At the end of Acts I and II, all the items have been collected by the Baker and his Wife, and the curse is lifted — not only on the Baker’s family, but for the Witch herself, who becomes young and beautiful once again.
With Into the Woods, the well-known fairy tales are woven together into something unique and compelling, and the entire cast and crew are commended for their hard work and dedication to the production. Special thanks to Maintenance for their support with the set; to Musical Director Deborah Balcom for guiding the cast through each song; to Assistant Director Lauren G. ’26; and, of course, to Director Karin Thorndike. To the extended Foxcroft community of students, faculty, parents, alumnae, family, and friends, thank you for supporting the performing arts during Arts Week! Bravo, bravo all!
