In-House Horse Show Series Wraps Up with Final Show and Special Derby Class

Twelve riders participated in three divisions, ranging in jump height from 18” to 2’6.” In place of our traditional 2’3” and 2’6” hunter and jumper divisions, a combined Foxcroft Derby Division was created to celebrate the finale of our series. Riders who were eligible to compete at 2’3” and above were entered in the Derby, which consisted of two rounds — a traditional “classic round” hunter course and then a handy hunter round, which included fun challenges for the hunters and jumpers alike. Riders were even asked to walk out of the ring onto Big Track and then trot a jump back into the arena within their handy round. Utilizing our outdoor arena and the surrounding areas for the Derby was a blast, and looking ahead, the Derby format will definitely add a fun layer to our series next year!

The judged competition began at 9:45am with the Commodore’s Pre-Beginner Flat Division, followed by the Journey’s End Long Stirrup 18” Hunter Division. Local horsewoman Faith Fort was our judge for the day, and she awarded prizes 1st-6th for each class. Champion and Reserve Champion honors were also announced at the conclusion of each division, and all participants were invited to our Winner’s Circle to take pictures to celebrate their results.

Despite the rain, students and staff came out to cheer on our participants, which added a sense of support and camaraderie that has quickly become one of our favorite parts of the In-House series. As we head into the end of the school year, Series-End points will be calculated, and Champion and Reserve Champion honors will be awarded for each division at the Spring Sports Awards Banquet on May 11.
