Sharing the Holiday Spirit

Sharing the Holiday Spirit

The spirit of the season was felt among the Foxcroft community last weekend, beginning with Friday evening’s campus-wide decorating party and continuing through Santa’s entrance at the end of the traditional Christmas Pageant on Sunday.

Friday evening, students met in the Athletic/Student Center to get their festive assignments, from decorating the tree in the library or their dorm lounges to writing messages of gratitude, making scarves for a women’s shelter, or assembling pet beds and chew toys for Middleburg Humane. Throughout the evening, a merry band of faculty strolled from dorm to dorm, caroling all the way, ending the night with a holly jolly student sing-along in the library.

On Saturday, during “Christmas in Middleburg,” students lived the School’s value of service by volunteering at two spots downtown: the Middleburg Community Charter School’s “Breakfast with Santa” event and at the “Kids’ Zone,” a new offering coordinated by the Athletic Association at the Middleburg Community Center. During the parade, freshmen rode in the Foxcroft float — a magnificently decorated sleigh — singing carols and handing out candy along the route.

Foxcroft hosted the Middleburg community in Engelhard Gymnasium for the traditional Christmas Pageant on Sunday. The New Girls and our talented singers gave a beautiful performance for guests — including a family representing four generations that attend the pageant together each year. Vidalia and Cletus, two adorable goats who brought joy as members of the cast last year, were joined by Leroy and Sadie this year. The Chorus featured faculty and staff as well as our talented students. Seeing the gym filled with parents, family members, alumnae, friends, and neighbors was wonderfully uplifting. From alumnae reminiscing about their roles in the pageant in days past to children awaiting the visit from Santa Claus, this tradition creates the merriest of memories.

The festivities continue through the end of the semester, with movie marathons and Ugly Christmas Sweater day. This weekend, we will enjoy the annual Lessons & Carols and Holiday Banquet on Sunday evening. May the spirit of the season fill your heart with joy!
