Rider Isla M. ’28 Achieves New Heights with Support of Foxcroft’s EP Program

Sophomore Isla M. is a competitive show jumper who participates in Foxcroft’s Exceptional Proficiency (EP) program, which offers her the flexibility to spend time away from school to train, compete, and pursue her personal dreams while receiving the academic support to fulfill the School’s high educational standards.

Isla is one of several students who participated at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, FL, this past season. She recently took some time out of her busy schedule to share a bit about her accomplishments and goals, and how Foxcroft’s Exceptional Proficiency (EP) program has supported her journey.

How long have you been riding?

I have been riding for pretty much all of my life! I started when I was around 5 years old, riding for fun on the weekends before I realized that it was what I wanted to do with my life. I was off and on about riding at first, quitting for a couple of years, then starting back, but I started taking riding seriously and going to competitions when I was around 11 or 12!

Tell us a bit about your recent accomplishments.

One of my recent accomplishments was moving up to 1.20m and placing fourth in my second Low Juniors Jumper class, as well as getting first place on a new horse I've been riding in the 1.15m.

How has Foxcroft’s EP program supported your journey?

Foxcroft’s EP program has supported my journey tremendously, whether it's letting me go to WEF for three months out of the school year, Lexington, KY, or other away shows that I ride in.

What has been your proudest moment so far?

One of my proudest moments so far was when I got Champion on my first 1.10m with my old horse Cedan, as well as getting a new horse and moving up to the 1.20m with her in only two weeks.

What’s next?

I want to keep moving up with my riding and showing competitively, even when I go to college. I'm going to some more shows in the future and hopefully end up doing the NAYC (North American Youth Championships) young riders by next year or the year after.
