Maddie N. ’27 Awarded National Silver Medal in Scholastic Art & Writing Award Contest
More than 310,000 works of art and writing in 28 different categories were submitted to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards this year by nearly 110,000 students across the U.S. and Canada. After regional recognition was announced earlier this school year, Gold Key works went on to be judged at the national level, and last week it was announced that junior Maddie N. was one of the National Medalists!
In a Morning Meeting announcement, Director of STEAM Education and Fine Arts Department Chair Julie Fisher announced that Maddie’s photograph titled “Vision” had been awarded a National Silver Medal in the Photography category. Maddie’s photograph capturing the incredible detail of a horse’s eye was one of just 2,800 works to earn National Medals, and the community was thrilled to celebrate this recognition of her artistic talent.
Foxcroft had a strong showing in this year’s Scholastic competition, with 17 works from 15 students earning regional recognition. Two submissions, including Maddie’s “Vision,” received Gold Keys, the highest regional distinction, and advanced to the national level.
All of the art and writing submissions are blindly judged by panels of renowned artists, authors, educators, and industry experts looking at the same three core values that have been in place since the program’s founding in 1928: originality, skill, and emergence of personal vision or voice.
