Maddie K. ’26 and Mrs. Moan are our December Everyday Heroes!

Maddie K. ’26 and Mrs. Moan are our December Everyday Heroes!

We are excited to share that Maddie K. ’26 and Director of College Counseling Laura Moan are the December winners of Foxcroft's Everyday Hero Award!

Last month, 33 nominations were received for the Everyday Hero awards, which shows so many community members are doing great things. All who take the time to nominate people are also great examples of our values.

The Everyday Hero Award Committee (Mrs. McGehee, Dr. Hyatt, Ms. Campbell, Mrs. Davis, Ms. Meinheit, Mrs. McCrehin, Ms. Page, Mrs. Saunders, Tashae’ A. ’25, Student Head of School; and the class presidents: Elizabeth P. ’25; Kyla P. ’26; Michaela W. ’27; and Cate H. ’28) reviewed the nominations and the announcement of winners at Morning Meeting was met with much cheering and applause!

Before revealing Maddie as the student winner, Junior Class President Kyla P. shared quotes from the nominations, including her own: “I’ve grown to be close to this recipient. I know I can go to her for anything without question, and she is one of the most genuine people I know. She is my unofficial official tutor for chemistry, my personal barista, and you’ll never see her without her Beats. She is unironically funny and unapologetically herself. Anybody who is ever in her presence will know how easy it is to just BE around her. I hope this award shows her how much people in the community look up to her and see her for the amazingly talented person she is. So, I hope Maddie K. sees what we all see in her.”

One of her peers wrote: “This student is always there for me and others. She helps me with math and science when I am confused, she lets me rant about everything to her, and she is just genuinely the nicest person at this school. She’s such an easy person for anyone to talk to and is always there to listen.”

A faculty member wrote: “This student is very responsible and reliable. She always helps out in the dorm lounge, regardless of whether or not she’s on duty. She will cover for anyone and is ready with a smile and compassion for everyone.”

Head of School Cathy McGehee also shared reflections from nominations before announcing Laura Moan as the employee winner, who not only had multiple nominations this month but has had numerous previous nominations.

One colleague wrote in his nomination: “She works incredibly hard to walk all of our students through the college process. From scheduling college visits, preparing students for the SAT, and writing and editing recommendation letters, she makes sure that each student is knowledgeable about the types of opportunities available to them after graduation and presents the best image of each student to the colleges to which they choose to apply.  She is amazing to work with and has been an invaluable resource to the teaching staff, helping us to craft better letters, and speaking frankly about what colleges expect. I can not imagine my time at Foxcroft without her help and I think she is more than deserving of this award.”

One student wrote: “She’s always there for anyone who needs help, especially when it comes to the complex college application process. Not only does she selflessly dedicate her time to guide us through every step, but she creates a warm, welcoming advisory where we feel comfortable. She’s also great at listening to students, always making sure to keep conversations going and ensuring no one feels awkward. Whether it's a personal issue or a question about college, she’s genuinely interested in our lives and makes an effort to connect. Her support, kindness, and dedication go far beyond what’s expected, and it’s clear she cares deeply about our success. She makes a real difference in our lives, and we’re so grateful for her. She goes above and beyond for each student.”

Congratulations, Maddie and Mrs. Moan!
