From Move-in to Choosings to Sunrise Service — Opening Days were Busy and Fun!

From Move-in to Choosings to Sunrise Service — Opening Days were Busy and Fun!

Not even an early morning rain shower could dampen the enthusiasm of students and families during move-in last weekend. The group hugs and squeals of delight were welcome sights and sounds as girls unpacked and settled into their dorms.

The schedule for Opening Days kept students busy, from orientation workshops for New Girls to various meetings for returning students, as everyone prepared for classes to start and the school year to begin — but there was also plenty of fun to be had!

Fox/Hound Choosings — a highlight of the week for many — took place Tuesday evening when students and faculty gathered behind Covert for this beloved tradition. The Fox and Hound officers and mascots did an excellent job as they worked tirelessly to plan and host two Sing Sings in addition to this special event, where new community members find out their Fox/Hound destiny!

The tradition was extra special this year as our new Head of School, Dr. Lisa Kaenzig, and her partner, Dr. Christine de Denus, sat among the students and other new community members waiting to be chosen! After all other names had been called, the Fox and Hound Captains drew the last two names and declared Dr. Kaenzig a Hound and Dr. de Denus a Fox! After Choosings, New Girls (including Dr. Kaenzig and Dr. de Denus) quickly found attire matching their team’s colors and cheered their hearts out with the rest of the Foxes and Hounds at New Girl Sing Sing.

The 2025-26 academic year was launched on Wednesday morning with an inspirational Sunrise Service in the courtyard of the Audrey Bruce Currier Library. Using the school year theme of "Dream Big, Achieve Bigger," student leaders offered quotes and reflections expressing their dreams and wishes for the school year as inspiration for students and teachers on their first day of classes. Head of School Dr. Lisa Kaenzig's remarks also tied into the school year theme as she described her own dream for her first year at Foxcroft.

“My dream for this year is to remain in awe,” shared Dr. Kaenzig. “In awe of all of you and your extraordinary journeys that you're taking here this year with me … I want to continue to feel the awe and wonder of all of the remarkable things and traditions and moments and days and experiences like this morning that connect generations of girls and women for over 100 years at this remarkable place. So my dream is to remain in awe and wonder of this amazing place and all of you…”
