Fox/Hound Field Hockey Ends in Tie!

The cheering was loud and proud as both teams played with great heart and determination. Fairly evenly matched, with multiple varsity starters and players on each side, the play was fast and furious, with each team creating opportunities to score only to be thwarted by the other side’s defense. The captains for each team — Ellet S. ’26 and ZoraNelle B. ’26 for the Foxes and Ariana A. ’26 and Helenka C. ’26 for the Hounds — encouraged and cajoled their teammates to no avail, ending Big Game at 0-0; a tie for only the second time in recent memory.  

The day’s festivities had started earlier when the Middleburg Hunt was welcomed at Covert with hot cider and biscuits before setting off with student riders Minnie B. ’27 and Gwenevere P. ’28 shadowing the ride. New Girl Runnings followed, ending when Fox Caroline T. ’28 touched the top of the gazebo! Friday’s Little Game was played to a 0-0 tie, unknowingly foreshadowing the Big Game results.

For more than a century, the tradition of Fox/Hound has been an integral and cherished part of Foxcroft, as evidenced by the number of students, parents, alumnae, faculty, and staff who came to cheer. When the final whistle blew at Big Game, the teams gathered at midfield to hug and celebrate one another as "true friends ’til the end" before heading off to savor a few days with family and friends over the Thanksgiving break.
