Foxes Win Fox/Hound Field Hockey!
Dressed in their team colors and buttons, an excited crowd donned their cold-weather gear, eager to cheer on the Foxes and the Hounds on Saturday, November 22.
The cheering was loud and proud as both teams played with heart and determination. Foxes started strong, with Charlotte T. ’28 scoring in the first five minutes. Hound captains Hadley D. ’27 and Katt G. ’27 encouraged and cajoled their teammates, mounting a formidable defense, but alas were unable to score as Fox captains CeCe Y. ’27 and Ellie W. ’27 led their team to a 1-0 victory.
The day’s festivities had started earlier when the Middleburg Hunt was welcomed at Covert with hot cider and biscuits for the annual Stirrup Cup before setting off with student riders Minnie B. ’27 and Gwenevere P. ’28 shadowing the ride. Friday’s Little Game went to the Hounds in a 1-0 victory with Isabela D. ’28 scoring the winning goal.
For more than a century, the tradition of Fox/Hound has been an integral and cherished part of Foxcroft, as evidenced by the number of students, parents, alumnae, faculty, and staff who came to cheer. When the final whistle blew at Big Game, the teams gathered at midfield to hug and celebrate one another as "true friends ’til the end" before heading off to savor a few days with family and friends over the Thanksgiving break.
