Foxcroft's 110th Fox/Hound Choosings was Fun for All!
Sitting together on the grass behind Covert, Foxcroft’s 71 New Girls (including three ITs and 13 Legacies) and new faculty and staff members chatted excitedly as they waited to learn their Fox/Hound fate.
With drums thumping, the Foxes and Hounds, each in their bright, shiny, crazy costumes, singing their banner songs and shaking their tambourines, processed around the waiting crowd until the Hounds were on one side and Foxes on the other. A few more chants were volleyed back and forth, then...silence.
While the Fox and Hound Captains prepared the Choosings Cup, the Old Girls waved their tambourines over the New Girls’ heads, feeding on each other's enthusiasm and building in intensity. The anxious energy was palpable as everyone waited for the Choosings to begin.
Finally, the first name was called, followed promptly by much whooping and hollering. The excitement was infectious, making its way into each student and adult waiting to be chosen. When called, each New Girl would jump up, make her way through the cheering crowd, climb the steps with a huge smile, and accept a hug from the captain of her new team and high-fives from her fellow teammates.
After the last New Girl was welcomed onto her team, the students were sent off to prepare for their first Sing Sing, once again honoring a tradition of belonging created by Miss Charlotte and fulfilling Foxcroft’s promises of a lifetime of friendships and a community of understanding hearts.
