Class Trips are a Fun and Meaningful Tradition!

Whether a senior braving the ropes courses at Camp Highroad or a freshman discovering hidden gems in Middleburg during a scavenger hunt, these trips are a treasured tradition that students eagerly anticipate each year.

“Camp Highroad is a tradition for each Senior Class to go do a ropes course and bond with each other,” explained Aradeal H. ’26. “Having added a few new seniors this year, it was a great chance to get to know them and get to know my friends for the last several years better! I really enjoyed doing the zipline. As I left the platform, all my friends waved at me, and it brought me back to freshman year when I had just met them. Now, as a senior, I trust all of these people incredibly well and have amazing memories with most of them, and I made some of my first memories with others on this trip. This is one of my favorite activities to start the year off with, besides Choosings!”

Senior Claire R. echoed those sentiments, “I really enjoyed the senior trip! It was pretty scary for me, since I'm a bit afraid of heights, but it was completely worth it. I feel like this trip allowed me to bond with different people, and it also helped build trust with them, since my life was literally in their hands. It was an insanely fun experience, and I feel like it helped me connect with other girls there. We were all pretty nervous, and it was funny when all of us would suddenly go quiet when our instructor would ask who was going next. Overall, I would definitely go again!”

“Camp Highroad was a true challenge,” summed up Helenka C. ’26. “Whether you're afraid of heights or just beginning to make new friends in your class, there was a trial for everyone to push through. What stood out most, however, were the endless shouts of encouragement. No matter who you were or what you were afraid of, the Class of 2026 was there for you.”

Freshman Niamh D. shared this about her class trip, “The Middleburg scavenger hunt trip our class took was a great bonding experience and a way for us to explore the town and show it to classmates who have never been there before. We got to show our new friend Hill School, the school we graduated from, and show her our old campus. Plus, we got to do all this while taking funny pictures and making great memories and aiming to win the prize.”

“Last Sunday was a blast,” agreed Caitlin M. ’29, classmate and Niamh's fellow Hill School grad. “Running around town, seeing old teachers from school, taking hilarious pictures, recreating old memories, and bonding with classmates. I love scavenger hunts. Not just because I'm very competitive and want to get a prize, but also because I love going on adventures, especially with friends. The Middleburg scavenger hunt was really great because it allowed me to remember how much fun I’ve had in this town!”

Finally, freshman Tenzin T. summed up the true value of these class excursions with this wonderfully descriptive reflection:

“Bathed in the warmth of the Virginia sun, I found myself on a scavenger hunt with my friend Kim S. ’29. The bus ride to Middleburg was a journey in itself, filled with laughter, complaints about how warm it was, and the kind of energy that only comes with a group of excited freshmen!

Kim and I eagerly looked over the scavenger hunt list, and one item immediately caught my eye: 'Take a photo with Robert Duvall – 250 points.' Determined and silly as the freshmen we are, we started asking people around town if they knew where we could find any traces of him. We talked to more people than I could count, but unfortunately, we never found him. What we did find, though, were incredible conversations. Locals of Middleburg shared their own stories about the town and about Robert Duvall, which made the whole experience even more special. Eventually, someone suggested we get creative, so we did! With a little help from Photoshop, we created a hilariously convincing picture of us with Robert Duvall. It may not have been real, but the laughs and memories were.

We continued the hunt, snapping a photo with a fox, posing next to statues, and checking off more tasks. Somewhere in the middle of it all, I paused for a moment, looked around, and saw Kim catching her breath, smiling. That’s when it hit me: my freshman year is flying by, and these moments, silly and small as they may seem, are the memories I’ll carry with me.

Some places teach you; others stay with you. Foxcroft does both.”
