Ava D. ’26 to Attend Early College Program in Art History and Curatorial Studies at Spelman College

Ava D. ’26 to Attend Early College Program in Art History and Curatorial Studies at Spelman College

I’m excited to attend this program to get a better feel of the Spelman College experience, and especially for the opportunity to pursue one of my budding interests, art history.

At Foxcroft, I channel my love for art and history as the only volunteer in the School’s archives. Currently, I’m scanning photos in the archives for an exhibit about the first black students who attended Foxcroft. This project will be completed in my senior year and displayed in the library for future students to enjoy. I also combine art and history through Foxcroft’s concentration program.

I'm most excited about engaging with my peers on a subject that's becoming very important to me — artistic expression and storytelling through visual arts. Although I was able to curate my own photography exhibit in Middleburg last year, I'm excited about the opportunity to curate a small exhibit using art pieces from Atlanta's High Museum.

Last summer, I participated in the Teen Think Tank Project's Change Agent Academy: Health Equity Research Cohort. I participated in a 60-hour virtual research study program with student researchers from different high schools around the globe. My partners attended schools in California and Turkiye.

My topic was the economic impediments affecting health equity. My research was published on Medium. Here is information about my summer cohort. I also did an oral presentation as part of the summer cohort. The program was interesting, and it helped me decide that it was not something I would want to do as a career.
