Arts Week Offers A Showcase of Fine Arts
Monday, April 20, marked the first day of an immersive Fine Arts takeover with wonderfully creative visual and performing arts on display throughout the week.
Exhibits first popped up in the Mars STEAM Building, enticing voters to select their favorites among a competitive collection of Science Photography Contest entries, including a new bonus category, “Night Vision,” the winning suggestion from the community. On the main floor of Schoolhouse, exhibits ranged from photography, ceramics, and drawing to painting, with Senior Solo Shows featuring bodies of work by the Class of 2026. On Wednesday, the whole school participated in a gallery walk to take in the beautiful displays.
Morning Meetings were a bit brighter and more energetic as several of the School’s performing artists, including a number from the Chorale, a performance by the dance class, a soloist, and a pianist, shared their talents with the School community.
Two afternoons were set aside for this year’s Festival of Arts Workshops to allow students the freedom and flexibility to engage in an art activity of their choosing. A wide array of offerings was hosted by club leaders, enthusiastic artists, and interested faculty members who provided instruction in bee box painting, clothing upcycling, mixed-media collages, Lego flower making, and so much more. Students were even able to sign up for a workshop hosted by Helen Cudahy Niblack ’42 Visiting Artist Bess Putnam, who also spoke and performed for the community.
Arts Week concluded with a brilliant rendition of the musical Into the Woods. The audience was captivated by the creative costuming, powerful songs, and clever storyline. Everyone left the week feeling inspired, entertained, and reinvigorated with appreciation for all art forms — a special thank you to everyone who made this week such a huge success.
