Anais P. ’26 Will Attend Buckeye Vet Camp at The Ohio State University

I will be attending the 2025 Buckeye Vet Camp at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine this summer.

I see this program as an amazing way to experience more in-depth learning and develop my understanding of veterinary medicine.

I’m most excited for the opportunity as a high school student to be able to work with current veterinary students and learn about veterinary medicine from them. I am also excited for the chance to learn and practice basic medical procedures like bandaging, suturing, reading X-rays, participating in labs, and giving clinical exams. This program also allows me to work with professionals in a vast range of careers in veterinary medicine. In addition, I’m looking forward to the real-world experiences via field trips to veterinary clinics, hospitals, wildlife rescue centers, and zoos.

I have not done a veterinary medicine-specific program previously, though through Foxcroft Wintermission, I was able to connect with Middleburg Humane Foundation. There I learned about rescues, rehabilitation, and adoption. I still volunteer on the weekends, whenever I have time. This is the first time that I applied to a vet camp with more than 160 applicants. I was able to show my passion for animal science enough to be selected as one of the 25 participants.

I am hoping that this camp will help strengthen my passion for animals and my choice to pursue animal science as a career. Additionally, I am looking forward to networking with vet professionals and vet-med students in different fields.
