Anais P. ’26, Ty D. ’28, Ms. Jackson, and Ms. Boswell Recognized as Everyday Heroes!
As a reflection of the number and quality of nominations received this fall, Foxcroft’s latest Everyday Heroes recognition went to two students and two employees.
Last month, 24 nominations were received for the Everyday Hero awards, which shows so many community members are doing great things. All who take the time to nominate people are also great examples of our values. Your kindness does not go unnoticed. Thank you! These nominations are great, so please keep sharing stories!
The Everyday Hero Award Committee (Mrs. McGehee, Dr. Hyatt, Ms. Campbell, Mrs. Davis, Ms. Meinheit, Ms. McCrehin, Ms. Page, Mrs. Saunders, Tashae’ A. ’25, Student Head of School; and the class presidents: Elizabeth P. ’25; Kyla P. ’26; Michaela W. ’27; and Cate H. ’28) reviewed the nominations and the announcement of winners at Morning Meeting during Family Weekend was met with much cheering and applause on the library courtyard.
Before revealing Anais and Ty as the student winners, Junior Class President Kyla P. and Freshman Class President Cate H. shared quotes from the nominations.
About Anais, a teacher wrote, “The first time I thought that this student should be the Everyday Hero was during move-in day. She was helping out in every way that she could. She even literally ran down the street to meet a car and help them figure out where they were going. Later in the month, she was the leader in helping the freshmen get decorations up for Halloween. As one could expect, this was a pretty messy affair. She took the time after the freshmen went to bed to get the materials organized and cleaned up. You could actually see the carpet after she was done!”
A student shared: “She takes time to talk with freshmen in the dorm, even when she isn’t on duty. They know that they can go talk to her if they need support, and she is a strong advocate for them when they need it.”
About Ty, one nominator wrote, “I have seen this student at numerous events, and she is always super supportive and encouraging. At the Foxcroft horse show, she was literally everywhere doing every job imaginable to ensure that everything went great. From the moment I arrived at 10:30am to the end of the show, she replaced fallen rails, helped move jumps between classes, passed out ribbons for virtually all the classes, brought water to thirsty riders, held horses, got the mounting block, and assisted riders onto their horses. Additionally, she had a kind word for almost every rider and was the first to offer support for those who had a tough run. She was there at the end and was still bustling around helping remove all of the planters and jumps from the ring. Throughout the whole day, she was kind and positive and never complained about doing a ton of work on a warm day. She was a model of selflessness that we strive for our students to embrace. This student showed that she goes above and beyond, effortlessly, while bringing joy to those around her.”
A student said, “She has a great sense of humor, being able to make anyone laugh and bring others into the conversation. She always makes sure that no one has to sit alone, inviting others to the table and making them feel welcome. On a daily basis she represents the importance of inclusion. These qualities that she embodies always manage to create a positive atmosphere for others around her. ”
Head of School Cathy McGehee and Senior Class President Elizabeth P. also shared reflections from nominations before announcing Ms. Jackson and Ms. Boswell as the employee winners.
About Ms. Jackson, one colleague wrote, “This person deserves to be recognized by the community for her tireless work in helping with the Head of School search. Between juggling that piece with her normal role, it's been quite the endeavor to do it seamlessly. While I know it hasn't been easy, she makes it look easy. Her dedication to presenting the best of Foxcroft to our next Head of School is paramount to our success, and for that, I would love to see her receive the Everyday Hero award — she works hard to maintain her work in her role, and has gone above and beyond in the search process”
One student wrote: “This person is my Foxcroft mom!! She makes Foxcroft feel like a home away from home. Whether it’s giving me advice, talking, or even just to get a piece of candy or stickers, her door is always open. She is so kind and caring and no matter what I’m talking about, I know she cares and she's always ready to listen with an open mind and heart. I don’t know what I would do without her!”
Another student wrote, “This person, a Middleburg local who knows everyone, helped me get a job in town. On a day-to-day basis, she allows students to come into her office; and have snacks and a safe space to talk. Aside from that, she has been a crucial part of helping our community find the next Head of School. I know that she has not only helped me, but she has helped the community of students in so many ways.”
About Ms. Boswell, one student wrote “During my last few years at Foxcroft, I've seen her be a safe space for every student here and even more so loved by all throughout the community. She's very patient and generous and has been such a positive light during my time here. I believe that she deserves this award every month.”
One colleague wrote: “Let me count the ways... Aside from being our registrar, dorm lead, and Hound Backer, she is also an emergency transport driver. Needless to say, it was pretty amazing of her to volunteer recently to drive one of her dorm students to the hospital in the middle of the night, after a full day of work and dorm duty. Bravo!”
Mrs. McGehee shared, “She makes you feel so special the way she greets you. Whether being available to welcome a new student to the dorm on a Sunday, even if she wasn’t on weekend duty, or to meet with the many, many alumnae who visit campus (often to see her!), she always has a kind word of welcome at any time of day. She helps Foxcroft students of all generations come together through our traditions.”
