Hounds Victory Means the Pack Keep the Cup!
Leipheimer Gym was rocking as tan and white ruled the court for a sixth consecutive year at the annual Battle for The Cup — aka Big Game Basketball.
Enthusiasm along the sidelines was equally matched by the hustle and heart on the court, as Foxcroft’s oldest and most beloved tradition, Fox/Hound Basketball, was played with all the spirit, pageantry, and intense competition we have come to expect and enjoy.
Hound Big Team Captains Rachel V. ’26 and Laura N. ’27 led their team to a 32-22 win to retain the coveted Cup. Fox Big Team Captains Katharina E. ’27 and Michaela W. ’27 guided their teammates with determination and heart, inspiring solid defense and rebounding that brought the Foxes to within two points of overtaking the Hounds on multiple occasions. In the end, though, the Foxes could not match the evenly dispersed shooting power of the Hounds.
After the last seconds had ticked away, the drums and cheers of students, faculty, alumnae, and parents all decked out in their buttons and colors erupted just a bit louder as the Hounds tied their ribbons on the handles and triumphantly raised The Cup.
On Friday, the Puppy and Cub teams battled relentlessly throughout Little Game, with the Puppies taking the lead in the second quarter. The Cubs mounted a solid attack in the fourth quarter, bringing them within reach, but the Puppies ended the game with a 6-3 win. Middle Game saw the Foxes take control with an early lead that the Hounds, though they gave it their all, couldn’t surmount, and the game ended 8-2 Foxes.
Both sides played with passion and grit throughout the games, and the spirit of the Fox/Hound tradition — true friends to the end — came to the fore, with hugs for teammates and rivals alike and a thunderous final round of cheers before students and faculty headed off to Spring Break.
Thank you to all who came out to support their team and enjoy this treasured tradition!
