Youth Art Month Exhibit “Healing Through Color” Opens Tomorrow! 

This year’s Youth Arts Month theme is “Healing Through Color,” and artists from all four schools created works that explored how color can be used as a tool for expression and to connect to their emotions. A yearly passion project for Julie Fisher, Foxcroft’s Director of STEAM Education, she once again spearheaded this thematic collaboration with the local elementary school art educators.

A combined biology and photography field trip to the Biocultural Conservation Farm at Oak Spring was a starting point for Foxcroft students to learn how to create paints, inks, and dyes from native plants and then apply them to photographs for hand tinting. Fisher also took her photography students to the Middleburg Community Charter School to work with their students on patterns in nature to create mandalas and experiment with cyanotypes or blue prints. Students enrolled in Foxcroft's new Scientific Illustration course worked with Banneker Elementary students to create colorful birds and feathers.  

The broad spectrum of healing hues in our natural environment was a focus for all of the work created for this unique exhibit, which will be on display at AiM from February 28 – March 18 with an opening reception on the 28th from 4-6pm and a special performance from the Foxcroft Treble Club.
