William R. Kenan Fund for Faculty Enrichment

The William R. Kenan Fund for Faculty Enrichment, given in 1979 by the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust, provides grants to faculty for summer research, scholarship, creativity, and academic excellence in order to enhance teaching and learning at Foxcroft. Projects funded by these grants will be innovative and collaborative, support a teacher’s professional growth plan, enhance student learning, and further strategic and departmental goals.

Employee Recognition

Faculty and staff are recognized for their excellence and service to the School with awards and accolades:

Mary Louise Leipheimer Excellence in Teaching Award

The Mary Louise Leipheimer Excellence in Teaching Award was established in 2014 by Foxcroft’s Board of Trustees to honor the retiring Head of School who spent 40+ years at the all girls school in Virginia as a teacher and administrator. The award recognizes a faculty member with a tenure of at least three years who connects with and challenges each student to develop her analytical ability, critical and independent thinking, communication skills and personal integrity.

Jane Lockhart Service Award

The Jane Lockhart Service Award was established in 2012 by Foxcroft parents and students in appreciation of the dedication, commitment, and passion of Jane Lockhart, who has worked at Foxcroft since 1966. It honors a staff or faculty member who “exemplifies a personal commitment to and understanding of all of our students,” with an emphasis on all.

Everyday Hero Award

Each day, members of the Foxcroft community perform small but meaningful acts. Felt across campus but sometimes unrecognized, this culture of kindness inspired a group of students and faculty to establish the Everyday Hero Award. This monthly recognition of one student and one employee is designed to catch people doing great things, tell their stories, and celebrate the living spirit of our Foxcroft values: Respect, Integrity, Kindness, and Service.

Deepening Global Connections: Foxcroft Participates in Professional Development with the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools

At the end of June, a Foxcroft delegation of administrators and teaching faculty joined champions of all-girls education from across the globe for the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools (ICGS) Global Forum. Held in Toronto, Canada, the event connected more than 600 educators, researchers, and leaders from ICGS’ member schools, which include 580 girls’ schools representing 25 countries. Participants shared their expertise, learned new strategies to bring back to the classroom or office, and drew inspiration for the impactful work of educating girls.

Steve McCarty Receives Mary Louise Leipheimer Excellence in Teaching Award

For his dedication to teaching students while recognizing their individual strengths and talents, Academic Dean Steve McCarty received the Mary Louise Leipheimer Excellence in Teaching Award from Head of School Dr. Lisa Kaenzig on Thursday, May 28, at the School’s annual Awards Assembly. This is the second time in his almost 20-year tenure that McCarty has been honored with the award.

Foxcroft & VPHA Host “The Garden Legacy Project” to Highlight Place-Based Learning with a Journey Through History

On Sunday, May 3, Foxcroft School hosted a special event on campus in partnership with the Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area (VPHA) and Oak Spring Garden Foundation (OSGF). “The Garden Legacy Project” explored the interconnected stories of Foxcroft founder Charlotte Haxall Noland and Rachel Lambert "Bunny" Mellon, Foxcroft Class of 1929. Two Foxcroft faculty — Julie Fisher, Director of STEAM Education and Academic Concentration Coordinator, and Dr. Meghen Tuttle, STEAM Faculty and STEAM Concentration Lead Mentor — shared their research findings and work with the assembled guests and community members.
