Battle of the Dorms Final Winner Announced

Head Prefect Hays T. ’21

This year's Battle of the Dorms looked a little different. Normally, we host Battle of the Dorms within the first month of school and it’s limited to a single event, where each dorm performs three acts which may include a skit, song, dance, poem, etc. and between acts, Athletic Association typically leads different challenges for the dorms to compete in. As Head Prefect, I wanted to continue this tradition, while also following the School’s COVID-19 rules. After many brainstorming sessions with Mrs. Ross (the Assistant Dean of Residential Life), Prefect Captains, and Student Council, we decided to make Battle of the Dorms a year-long competition moving the performance part of the battle to the spring.
Two weekends ago, we held the skit portion of Battle of the Dorms where each dorm competed in several "Minute To Win It” games and then performed or shared their skit videos. They were so entertaining, whether it was Dillon singing “Mask, Gloves, Soap, Scrubs,” Stuart sharing weird things at Foxcroft, Orchard performing a skit about deciding what to do for Battle of the Dorms, Reynold’s Whips performing carpool karaoke in their car, or Applegate singing “Hotel California.” While the night was a little chilly and windy, it was so nice to get the entire community together. After all of the dorm skits were performed and while the judges deliberated on a winner, seniors entertained the crowd by performing their annual faculty and staff impersonations. The judges came back and told us Dillon placed 1st, Reynolds 2nd, and Orchard 3rd. The 30 points Dillon earned by placing 1st put them at 100 points, while all the other dorms were at around 50 points.

At the Athletic Association Banquet this past weekend, I formally announced that Dillon was the overall Battle of the Dorms winner. They received a trophy that will stay in their dorm, reminding them and others of their success. Dillon will get another prize, which is still to be determined, but will be worth all of their hard work. Lily R. ’22, Head Prefect for next year, will continue the new year-long Battle of the Dorms competition with some new events in addition to the field day, door decorating contests, and skits. Students, get ready for another fight to win Battle of the Dorms for next year!
