Three Soccer Players and Two Lacrosse Stars Earn All-DAC Honors

Five more Foxcroft athletes – three from soccer and two from lacrosse - have been named all-Delaney Athletic Conference First Team selections, joining three softball players named last week, Athletic Director Michelle Woodruff announced Saturday (May 14).

Senior co-captains Sarah G. and Ellie M. and junior Kitty F. received First Team honors in soccer, while senior Markesha B. and sophomore Carter W. were tabbed in lacrosse. Luisa '12, Caroline H. '12 and senior Claire K. were the softball honorees.

Sarah G. proved to be a powerful and efficient defender for the soccer team, which advanced to the semifinals of the Conference Tournament and finished with a 5-6-1 record. She knew when she had time to pass the ball up and assist in a play up front. She was a very eager player who improved a great deal over the course of the season and was named the Most Valuable Player by the team’s coaches.

Ellie was switched from midfield to forward midway through the season and scored four goals, including a hat trick against Emmanuel Christian School. Despite an ankle injury late in the season that hampered her play, she never lost her enthusiasm and offered great insight and support to her team. She was given the team’s Coaches Award for her contributions.

Kitty, who played both midfield and forward, was the team’s most polished player in terms of strength, precision and finesse. She scored four goals, including a game-tying goal in the waning moments against Quantico High that earned the team a 1-1 tie in the first game of the season.

Lacrosee had perhaps the most dramatic story of the spring season. Markesha had been a field player for three seasons but was asked to step in as a goalkeeper when starter Alexis Hall was injured. She was stellar in the net, saving many goals with clutch saves and collecting 28saves against DAC competition during three games in the net. She was named the team’s Most Improved Player.

Carter was the team’s leading scorer with 10 goals and eight assists against DAC competiton. She was a solid player at both ends of the field, creating scoring opportunities and playing first-rate transitional defense. She was voted by the coaches as the team’s Most Valuable Player.
