They're the Top! Varsity Basketball Takes No. 1 seed into DAC Tournament

Varsity Basketball will be the top seed in the Delaney Athletic Conference Division II tournament, which begins next week, and the team is confident it can bring home a DAC basketball title for the first time in school history.

The girls won the regular season DAC Division II championship with a 4-0 record, earning a first-round bye and the right to host a semifinal game in Engelhard Gym on Thursday, February 19. Foxcroft, 9-5 overall, hosts its final regular season game this afternoon -- a non-conference match with Fresta Valley Christian School.
In the DAC Tournament, Foxcroft will play the winner of Tuesday’s play-in game between Tandem Friends and St. Michael's, which will be played in Charlottesville on Tandem’s home court. Foxcroft defeated both teams soundly during the regular season, beating Tandem, 52-28, at home on January 17 and St. Michael's, 48-22, in Fredericksburg on January 19.

Last season, Foxcroft finished second during the DAC regular season but reached the final of the tournament only to lose a tough 28-24 game to Fredericksburg Academy. FA moved up to Division I this season, allowing Foxcroft to emerge as the team to beat in Division II.

Foxcroft has used a smothering defense to defeat all its DAC opponents. Led by guards Alex G. ’16, Pipsy S. ’16 and Emma R. ’15; center Kat F. ’16 and forward Mia M. ’18, Foxcroft has averaged more than 14 steals a game against the four division opponents. The adage that the best offense is a good defense rings true as steals and turnovers forced by Foxcroft have led to countless fast break baskets.

Alex leads the team in scoring against DAC opponents with a 14.2 points per game average and Pipsy is close behind with 11.9 ppg and 4.5 assists per game. Kat has done superb work on the boards, averaging 12.0 rebounds per game in the four conference matchups.
