Sylvia Y. '19 Earns Perfect Math League Score

Sophomore Sylvia Y. aced the first Math League contest of the year with a perfect 6 out of 6, Math Club Head Melanie F. announced Wednesday. Sylvia was one of only 13 students in Virginia who earned perfect scores.
As a school, Foxcroft earned 22 points on the test -- good for third in Loudoun County and a share of 16th place in the state. There were 68 schools in the state and eight in Loudoun County that participated.

Math League continues with six monthly challenges. All Foxcroft students are welcome to compete.

Founded in 1977, the Math League creates math competitions for elementary, middle, and high school students in the United States, Canada, China, and other countries. Its goal is to promote enjoyment and study of mathematics by giving students an opportunity to compete in an academically-oriented activity and gain recognition for mathematical achievement.

Foxcroft has participated in Math League for a number of years, finishing as high as 10th among all the competing high schools, large and small, in Virgina. In 2015-16, Foxcroft was second in Loudoun and 21st in Virginia. Sylvia, then a freshman, was among the top 20 in the state for the year.
