Study Buddies: A New Partnership with Middleburg Elementary

by Emily C. '15

Study Buddies is a new club that formed this year and we work with students at Middleburg Elementary. Every Tuesday and Thursday, Ms. McKibbin takes a group of students to the elementary school, where we help the kids there with their homework. They are from kindergarten through fifth grade, and usually need their with their math and reading. After their homework is done, we read books with them, and then go to the computer lab to use a computer program that helps them with their math and reading skills. Also, each of us generally stays with the same student every session.

Most recently, we were able to travel to a nearby farm to go on a short field trip with the kids. We really enjoy being around them and the club has provided a way for them to have fun while they’re still learning. I’m always greeted with a hug by, Destiny, a fourth grade student I tutor, and now it’s hard to imagine not seeing her every week. Marina Shallcross ’16 and Faylyn Harrison ’16 are also a part of the club and go as many times as they can.

We all love going and hope to continue the club next year. Overall, Study Buddies has become such a rewarding experience.
