Strengthening Global Outreach: Foxcroft's Model United Nations

On Saturday March 29, 14 Foxcroft students attended a Model United Nations conference hosted by Loudoun Valley High School in Purcellville. This challenging international simulation program offers high school and college students the opportunity to develop their public-speaking and diplomacy skills as they explore important contemporary and historical conflicts that affect the global community.

In MUN committees on Saturday, our aspiring diplomats represented several nations, including Nigeria, India, South Africa, and Russia, as they engaged in spirited debate on global issues ranging from freedom of expression in Tibet and cyberwarfare to child mortality. According to faculty advisor, Ms. Anne Burridge, the conference gave Foxcroft delegates an invaluable first experience in the MUN debate format and procedures. She was delighted to report that the Libyan double delegation of senior Amalia S. and freshman Emily D. won the Best Delegate award for their performance in committee.

These members of Foxcroft's newly minted MUN Club enthusiastically await their next conference and hope to attend a number of one-day and weekend MUN events each year.
