Five seniors, two juniors and a faculty member have been elected to the Foxcroft School chapter of the Cum Laude Society, chapter president Susan Erba announced Wednesday (Feb.11) . The Cum Laude Society is a national high school scholastic honor society modeled on the collegiate Phi Beta Kappa.
Erba and the other adult members of the chapter, presented Cum Laude crosses to seniors Korama D., Chelsea D. , Georgie F., Olivia M., and  Chrissy T., to juniors Rachel G. and Grace M. and to english teacher Mia Noffsinger in the traditional -- and suspenseful -- announcement ceremony. The official induction into Cum Laude takes place at Commencement.

The Cum Laude Society is a national high school scholastic honor society modeled on the collegiate Phi Beta Kappa. There are more than 335 Cum Laude chapters across the United States; the Foxcroft chapter was established in 1958. Students are selected based on academic excellence (criteria include GPA, course load and a genuine interest in the pursuit of knowledge), good character, honor and integrity. Being named to the Cum Laude Society is the highest academic honor Foxcroft can bestow on a student. It is generally conferred only upon members of the senior class. A few exceptional students are selected during their junior year.

Faculty are eligible to become members if they were named Cum Laude when they were in high school; earned Phi Beta Kappa in college or have contributed significantly to the intellectual life of the School over a number of years. Ms. Noffsinger joins Mary Louise Leipheimer (Head of School), Glenn Kantz (English teacher), Steve Matthews (Head Librarian/English teacher), Matt Mohler (Math and Science teacher), Alex Northrup (Academic Dean/History teacher) and Susan Erba (Chair, Math Department) as adult members of the Foxcroft chapter.
