Observed: Jillian '10 excelling in motorcycle trials

Fox Jillian '10 was one of the captains of the field hockey Big Team that gave the Blue its first victory in several years last fall.  And this spring, she served as manager for the Varsity Soccer Team that put together its best season in memory, including a trip to the DAC Championship Game. Her favorite--and most successful--athletic endeavor, however, is in a sport that many of us have never heard of: observed trials, a motorcycling competition in which riders challenge themselves over an obstacle course that includes tree stumps, boulders, water and generally the toughest terrain a bike can handle. The idea is to complete the course without  touching the ground with the feet -- and there are judges everywhere keeping track of when you do!

Jillian started competing in the sport -- which her dad, Shane, also does -- several years ago and she has become one of the best young women in the game. Last summer she placed fourth in the Women's Advanced Class at the U.S. Women's Open in Tennessee and, through April, she was ranked first in the Modern B Class. That's the Men's Modern B Class.

A mid-April competition in Monrovia, MD, put her there after she finished second with only 22 points over 30 sections. It was one of the biggest trials events of the year with close to 100 competitors.
Congratulations, Jillian, and good luck for the rest of the season!
