Mary Park D. '17 Named Secretary of Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Board

Sixteen-year-old Mary Park D., a rising junior at Foxcroft School with one year of nonprofit board experience under her belt, was elected last month to serve as Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Foundation (CBBCF) for the fiscal year July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016.

Jessie H., who will a senior in the fall, was elected to her first term on the Board of the Middleburg non-profit dedicated to helping victims of this horrible scourge, their families and friends.
Both girls were elected for one-year terms, beginning in July. Jessie replaced Lilly P. '15 who graduated last month after spending two years on the Board.

A Dallas resident who spends about 10 months a year in Virginia at Foxcroft, Mary Park joined the board last fall and has been responsible for improving or establishing its presence on various social media platforms. Her fellow officers for the 2015-16 year are all adults with considerable experience, but the Nominating Committee has been impressed with her participation, intelligence and initiative. She sits on the Grants and Education committees.

Because of Foxcroft's generous and consistent support of the CBBCF and its major fundraising events, the CBBCF Board has designated three permanent seats for the School -- two for students and one for an adult.

Head of School Catherine S. McGehee is entering her second year on the Board. She supports the Mary Park and Jessie in many ways as they learn about philanthropy from the inside out in a rare arrangement that makes them full-fledged members of the board, depite their youth.

Foxcroft annually hosts the Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Walk, Run and Pooch Prance on its 500-acre campus each fall and, led by the School's student-run Athletic Association, organizes the Think Pink Basketball Tournament and other benefit events. The students have raised thousands of dollars over the past nine years.
