A Middleburg resident, Lilly was born with cerebral palsy but has not let that get in her way. At Foxcroft, she has been a varsity softball manager, student life leader, mentor to new students, and regular on both the FoxHound stage and in the Parents' Weekend theater productions. She has performed in every spring show since arriving as a freshman, with wonderfully amusing feature roles in last year's "Legally Blonde" and the upcoming "High School Musical." She also played one of the theater critic/hosts in the 2012 dinner theater show,
Broadway's Hits and Misses."Don't let the fear of striking out keep you out of the game," Lilly writes in the Future Leaders section.
Lilly's passion -- and talent -- for acting and singing also led her to become very active at
A Place To Be, the Middlburg-based non-profit that helps youngsters face, naviagate, and overcome life's challenges. She helped write and performed in the Same Sky Project that wowed the Foxcroft community earlier this year and has appeared in numerous productions over the years. This spring, she is serving as a mentor to young adults with special needs at APTB.
But it is Lilly's Battle of the Dorms performance last fall that put on display just what an amazing young lady she is and how much Foxcroft has helped her find her voice. She wrote and performed an original monologue about living with CP and delivered it with passion and compassion. "Her words captured the heart of the audience in a powerful way," wrote Director of College Counseling Barbara Conner in one of the recommendations supporting Lilly's nomination as a future leader. "There was not a dry eye in the room."
Loudoun County's "Future Leaders" were honored at a special gathering on Friday, March 14. The
Times-Mirror, a weekly newspaper published in Leesburg, VA, annually celebrates some of the county’s most outstanding high school seniors with this honor. The program is underwritten by the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation and scholarships are supported by local businesses. Since the Future Leaders of Loudoun selection process began in 2002, Foxcroft has had eight girls chosen, including Lilly. Past Foxcroft honorees are: Kelly Halpin ’03, Jessica Walker ’05, Shannon Walker ’07, Adrienne Teeley ’08, Lillibet Motion ’10, and from the Class of 2013, Debbie Cadenas and Miranda Raschid.
Nominations are open for high school seniors who reside in Loudoun County. Students are selected based on a variety of qualities and accomplishments, including scholastic excellence, community service, athletic prowess, and leadership skills.
