Lacrosse Stars Emma and Alex Honored Again!

Emma R. ’15 and Alex G. ’16, two scoring stars who led the Foxcroft Lacrosse Team to the School’s first state championship this spring, received honorable mention All-Met honors from the Washington Post last week, marking the first time Foxcroft has put two players on that esteemed list in one season.

In addition, Emma has been named a 2014 Brine National High School All-American and selected to represent Virginia at the 2014 Brine National Lacrosse Classic, it was announced Friday. The two-time Delaney Athletic Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-State selection was one of just 17 players at a regional tryout in Midlothian, VA, to earn a trip to the event, which will be played June 20-July 3 in Boyds, MD.
Alex was named Player of the Year in the VISAA Division II state tournament after collecting 16 goals and 18 ground balls and controlling most of the draws in three games. The fleet midfielder set a school single-season record for goals with 92 and added 16 assists to earn First Team All-Delaney Athletic Conference honors for the second year as Foxcroft completed a perfect 17-0 season.

Emma scored 78 goals and added 45 assists for a team-leading 123 points, which helped her earn an invitation to the tryouts for the Brine Classic, which brings the top high school lacrosse players in the country together in one place where they compete on regional teams for the national title and have an opportunity to be seen by college coaches. She was also named First Team All-State, a step up from the Second Team mention she received in 2013 when Foxcroft fell in the state final. Emma was also All-Met honorable mention last year.

In the 24-year history of the Post’s All-Met girls lacrosse selections, only two other Foxcroft players ever receive honorable mention, and never in the same year. All-America goaltender Laura Block, a member of the Class of 2007, was tabbed in 2006 and 2007 and attack Claire Mancini ’05 was the first, in 2005.

The all-Met team is extremely difficult to make as it encompasses athletes from all public and private schools in the Washington metropolitan area, including the District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland. It is selected by the Post’s high school sports staff from a list of players submitted by the area’s coaches.
