In its inaugural newsletter, published in July, the National Capital Area Chapter (NCAC) of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention thanked the Class of 2011 and the entire Foxcroft School community for its fundraising and educational efforts on behalf of the organization. The Class, which organized last spring's Junior Class Walkathon, donated $3,000 to NCAC, the newest chapter of AFSP, and more than $5,500 in total to help fight suicide, one of the leading causes of death in teenagers.

Steve Iselin, NCAC's founder and chairman, came to Foxcroft to speak and participate at the Walkathon, which saw virtually the entire school commmunity make the trek. Throughout the year, members of the Class of 2011 had worked to educate the community about suicide -- statistics, warning signs, ways to help. They also arranged for  English teacher Mia Noffsinger to share her personal experience with losing a sister to suicide.

The story of the Walkathon was also posted on the AFSP website. Click here to read it.
