IEA Zones Tops Off a Successful IEA Season

A report on IEA Zone Finals from Director of Riding Kate Worsham

After a fruitful IEA season which saw Foxcroft qualify ten riders in thirteen classes for Regional Finals, the journey continued at IEA Zone Finals held the weekend of March 28-29 at Garrison Forest School in Owings Mills, MD. Two wins and a second place finish at Regionals created the opportunity for Guen G. '17, Britttany H. '17, and Jasmine M. '16 to contest their classes at Zones in hopes of earning a trip the National Finals in April.
The competition was top-notch and tensions ran high as only the top three ribbon winners in each class were granted advancement to the National Finals. Guen and Jasmine rode on Saturday in the Individual Open and Beginner classes on the flat, respectively. They each performed with technical savvy, poise, and thoughtfulness while navigating around the other participants in the class. With fourteen riders in each event, there was no shortage of talent and determination as each participant was aiming for the win. Although they were not rewarded with a ribbon for their efforts, both girls performed well and were proud to have represented Foxcroft at the Zone Finals.

On Sunday, after a course walk to discuss her track and strategy for navigating the jumps, Brittany lined up to draw her horse for the Individual Novice over fences. She was assigned a sweet gelding who required a fair amount of leg and a quiet upper body. Brittany used her two warm up fences to figure out exactly what type of ride her horse wanted and she turned in a smooth and stylish performance to best a number of riders in her class and earn an eighth place ribbon. This was a great accomplishment and marks Brittany's second year in the IEA league.

All of the IEA team members did an outstanding job this season and this young team is looking forward to much success in the future!
