Humanitarian Trip to Senegal Introduced

We are pleased to announce a new exciting opportunity for our girls! Foxcroft School has decided to commit itself to supporting the development of a small town in Senegal for the next few years with fundraising, eyeglass collection, and a Wintermission trip.
The purpose of this project is for the Foxcroft community to give back by helping the residents -- especially the children -- of Koussanar, a town of 17,000 in central Senegal. As a community, we will find ways to raise funds for our on-site projects. We will collect used eyeglasses from students, faculty, family, and friends with collection boxes and drives to take to Koussanar.

During the February 2014 Wintermission term, a team of ten girls will journey to Koussanar in order to share time, energy, and medical support with the people. Thanks to a partnership with a non-profit organization in France that I have worked with in the past, Foxcroft girls will join professional French opticians and ophthalmologists in the distribution of used eyeglasses and help with the fitting of these eyeglasses to the hundreds of Senegalese people in search of corrected vision. They will also help with other tasks, such as painting classrooms, teaching classes, or cooking for the children of Koussanar. One of the main goals of the trip is also for the Foxcroft group to work together to assess the needs of the village and to prioritize its time accordingly.
I have taken students to Koussanar before and it is often a very moving experience, for the travelers and for the Senegalese they meet. We can all make a difference!
