John H. Suitor, III, Dean of Faculty and Academic Dean at Foxcroft School, has been named headmaster of Long Trail School, in Dorset, VT, effective July 1, 2007, Long Trail’s Board of Trustees announced recently.
Suitor, who joined the Foxcroft faculty along with his wife, Gail, in 1991, was selected after a national search that considered more than 40 independent school leaders. He will replace David D. Wilson, the founder of Long Trail School.

“John is widely considered a rising star in national educational circles,” said John Sobel, Chairman of Long Trail’s Board of Trustees. “His credentials are impeccable, his recommendations are glowing.”

Foxcroft’s Head of School, Mary Louise Leipheimer, called the appointment “bittersweet,” but noted, “No one here at Foxcroft is surprised at Long Trail’s wisdom, and everyone here is very proud of John. Growing a head of school is a great accolade for Foxcroft,” she added.

During his 15-year tenure at Foxcroft, Suitor has served as technology coordinator, summer programs coordinator, athletic director, history teacher, chair of the history department and, for the past five years, his current position, Academic Dean/Dean of Faculty. Both Suitor and his wife are from Vermont originally.
