Fox/Hound Rivalry Renewed on a Gorgeous Fall Day

Scores of alumnae, family, faculty, and friends -- not to mention virtually the entire student body -- enjoyed a brisk, sunny day of fun Saturday as the annual Fox/Hound Field Hockey rivalry, which dates back nearly a century, was renewed on Foxcroft School's Middleburg campus. The Hounds, who lost both field hockey and basketball last year, won Big Game 1-0 -- a victory foretold (perhaps) by Hound Alex G. '16 winning New Girl Runnings in the morning. Little Game, played with endless enthusiasm if not excessive expertise, ended in a 0-0 tie.
As always, it was the spirited friendly competition, the return of Foxes and Hounds of years gone by, and all the trappings that made the day. Hanging banners fluttered in the wind. Green tunic-clad flower girls passed out team pins. Drums and tamborines and voices resonated across the campus and just about every person, and a fair number of dogs as well, sported either the Foxes' white and blue or the Hounds' yellow, red, and brown.

When it was all over, though, it was the Foxcroft green, the Foxcroft experience, that connected all present, and the Foxes and the Hounds affirmed once again that they truly are "friends to the end."
