Fourteen Foxcroft Athletes Honored

Fourteen Foxcroft athletes from four different sports have earned All-Delaney Athletic Conference honors for their outstanding performances this fall, Athletic Director Michelle Woodruff announced Monday.
Four of the athletes -- junior Annie M. in tennis, junior Kat F. in volleyball, and sophomores Allison B. and Lindsay W. in field hockey -- are repeat First Team choices from last season. Junior Alex G. finished fifth at the DAC Cross Country Championship Thursday to earn All-DAC honors in her fourth sport! As a sophomore, Alex was tabbed for the top conference teams in field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse. She also collected VISAA Division II All-State honors in field hockey and lacrosse.

Annie, who was the Player of the Year in the DAC in 2013, was joined on the All-DAC Tennis First Team by junior Linda Y. while sophomore Isabel S. received honorable mention. The team finished second in the DAC and earned a No. 7 seed in this week’s state tournament.

Juniors Pipsy S. and Laney M. were named All-DAC First Team in field hockey along with Lindsay and Allison. Serena H. was Honorable Mention. Pipsy, who was an Honorable Mention a year ago, anchored the defense and Laney, a newcomer, led the team in scoring. Lindsay was another strong defender while Allison led the team in assists and Serena was second on the team in goals.

The team was also runner-up in the DAC and ranked fifth entering the VISAA’s Division II state tournament.

In volleyball, Kat was joined on the First Team by senior Emma R. Junior Lilly S. received Honorable Mention. An outside hitter, Kat had 156 kills this season, which is the most by any Foxcroft volleyball player since the team joined the DAC in 2008. Likewise, Emma recorded the most assists with 227. Lilly led the team in digs and service points.

Cross Country All-Conference selections are determined by finishes in the DAC Championship race at the end of the season. Lexie W. ’16 finished just behind Alex in sixth and Brittany ’17 was eighth, marking the first time that Foxcroft has had three finishers among the top 10. The team will compete in the VISAA Division II State Championships Friday at Woodberry Forest School.
