EPP Riders Shine Under Bright Lights of Big Shows

Three Foxcroft students competed last week in the prestigious Washington International Horse Show and they came home with a half-dozen ribbons — including one blue — and some outstanding experience. All three riders participate in Foxcroft's unique Exceptional Proficiency Program, which enables talented students to pursue their passion at a level rarely possible while attending high school.

Freshman Eliza F. rode her horse Hollywood to first place in the Small Junior Hunter 15 & under class and collected ribbons in three other classes. Carolina W. '16 and her horse Zabelle S collected two ribbons, and Meghann H. '16 finished just out of the ribbons after a solid jumpoff. Meghann, who trains with Foxcroft Director of Riding Kate Worsham, also boasted a 10th-place finish in the North American League Finals a week earlier at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg.

Eliza, who trains off campus with Ron Danta in addition to riding on campus with Worsham and on the school IEA Team, was first in a field of 15 in the $2500 Small Junior Hunter class. She and Hollywood also teamed up for a fourth and a seventh in two other small junior hunter 15 & under classes. Riding Cassius, she finished ninth in the Large Junior Hunter competition.

Competing against the top 30 jumpers in the nation in her division, Carolina
placed 8th in the Low Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Speed Round and 5th in the Low Junior/AO Jumper Championship Classic.  Carolina trains with Kim Prince from Snowbrook Farms in Hume, VA.

At the WIHS, Meghann was clear in her first round, and had a very respectable jump off but finished 13th. Both WIHS and Harrisburg were culminations of a successful season competing in sanctioned races to qualify for the finals, an achievement of special note since she and Newton have been partners for only about nine months.
